At a critical moment in Ethiopia’s national dialogue and reconciliation process, OMNI Ethiopia delivered a major training and capacity-building programme for community radio stations and television outlets across the country.  The Community Radios for National Dialogue project trained staff at 34 community radio stations and 6 television stations in dialogue promotion, editorial standards, and responsible communication on sensitive public issues.

BUILDING LOCAL DIALOGUE CAPACITY

The training focused on giving broadcast teams the editorial tools and confidence to create programming that reflects community voices and supports dialogue-driven formats.  Field recorders were distributed to participating stations, enabling teams to report directly from communities and bring local voices into their broadcasts.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Community radio and local television are often among the few media platforms that speak in people’s own languages and reflect their lived experiences. By building the capacity of these outlets to facilitate dialogue, OMNI Ethiopia contributed to a media environment where reconciliation conversations can happen at community level.  Source: OMNI Ethiopia Organizational Profile
