OMNI Ethiopia has officially launched Zega Digital / ዜጋ ዲጂታል, a Meta-funded digital literacy initiative implemented by OMNI Ethiopia in partnership with Meta. Powered by Meta’s My Digital World curriculum, Zega Digital uses WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram to strengthen digital safety, media literacy, and responsible online engagement in Ethiopia. The initiative was launched during a policy breakfast and campaign launch event at Sheraton Addis, bringing together international donors, government representatives, local civil society organisations, and academic experts.
WHAT ZEGA DIGITAL WILL DO
Zega Digital combines structured digital learning modules with broader awareness campaigns. The initiative is designed to respond to the growing need for digital safety, media literacy, and responsible online participation. By using platforms that are already widely used in Ethiopia — WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram — the programme aims to make digital literacy education accessible, practical, and relevant to everyday online behaviour.
WHY IT MATTERS
Digital platforms are now central to how people receive information, communicate, learn, and participate in public life. Strengthening digital literacy is therefore essential for safer online engagement, better information choices, and more informed communities. OMNI Ethiopia thanks Meta and all stakeholders who joined the launch and contributed to this important milestone. Source: OMNI public update / OMNI website content direction
