OMNI Ethiopia invites legally registered media organizations in Ethiopia to submit Expressions of Interest to participate in the African Media Integrity & Resilience Program — AMIRP, a multi-year media strengthening initiative running from 2026 to 2028.

The programme is designed to strengthen the capacity, independence, resilience, and sustainability of media organizations in Ethiopia. It contributes to broader efforts to improve access to reliable information, promote public accountability, and support inclusive civic engagement.

AMIRP is funded by the European Union, coordinated by International Media Support — IMS, and implemented by OMNI Ethiopia in partnership with DW Akademie and other programme partners.

About the Programme

The African Media Integrity & Resilience Program supports selected media organizations through a structured package of capacity strengthening, fellowship opportunities, advisory support, mentorship, exposure visits, and recognition mechanisms.

Selected organizations may benefit from training, coaching, practical assignments, tailored consultancy support, internship opportunities, study visits, modest financial assistance, awards, and certification upon successful completion of programme activities.


Objective of the Call

The purpose of this Call for Expressions of Interest is to identify and select up to 20 eligible media organizations operating in Ethiopia to participate in a comprehensive media fellowship and institutional capacity strengthening programme.

The programme will support participating organizations to:

  • Improve editorial quality, ethical standards, and professional journalism practices.
  • Strengthen digital transformation and innovation capacities, including the responsible use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
  • Enhance financial sustainability and media viability.
  • Increase audience engagement, public trust, and institutional resilience.

Scope of Support

Selected media organizations will participate in a structured programme that may include the following components.

Media Fellowship Programme

The fellowship will target journalists and media professionals from selected organizations and may include:

  • Modular training on selected thematic areas.
  • Mentorship and coaching by experienced media practitioners.
  • Production-oriented assignments.
  • Performance-based progression throughout the programme.

Capacity Building and Training

Participating organizations may receive tailored capacity-building support through:

  • In-person, online, or hybrid training modules.
  • Practical tools, guidelines, and learning resources.
  • Peer learning and knowledge exchange platforms.

Organizational Advisory Support

Selected media organizations may receive targeted consultancy and advisory support to strengthen:

  • Editorial systems and newsroom workflows.
  • Digital strategy and innovation.
  • Business models and revenue diversification.
  • Institutional development and operational efficiency.

Internship Opportunities

The programme may facilitate internship placements and engagement opportunities for emerging media professionals. These opportunities will be provided to selected participants based on programme participation, performance, organizational needs, and availability.

Study Visits and Exposure Opportunities

Selected participants may be considered for regional and international study visits, subject to active participation, successful completion of assignments, performance, eligibility, and travel conditions.

These opportunities are intended to expose participants to good practices in media innovation, governance, editorial independence, and institutional sustainability.

Awards and Recognition

The programme will include a competitive recognition mechanism to acknowledge excellence in areas such as:

  • Public interest journalism.
  • Digital innovation.
  • Audience engagement.
  • Professional and ethical reporting.

Eligibility Criteria

This call is open to legally registered media organizations operating in Ethiopia, including:

  • Broadcast media organizations, including television and radio.
  • Print media organizations.
  • Digital and online media platforms.
  • Community media organizations.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be legally registered and operational in Ethiopia.
  • Demonstrate active content production and audience engagement.
  • Have basic organizational and editorial structures in place.
  • Commit to active participation in programme activities over the full programme period.
  • Be willing to engage in capacity strengthening, mentorship, assignments, and institutional development activities.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of the organization to the objectives of the programme.
  • Demonstrated need for capacity strengthening.
  • Potential for institutional impact and scalability.
  • Organizational capacity, commitment, and readiness to participate in a multi-month programme.
  • Diversity considerations, including geographic coverage, audience reach, language, media type, and institutional profile.

Important Notes

Selected media organizations will receive the programme’s core support components. However, participation in specific opportunities such as internships, DW Global Media Forum participation, study visits, awards, and other special opportunities will depend on assignment completion, participant engagement, eligibility, performance, and space availability.

The programme reserves the right to verify submitted information and request additional documentation where necessary.
