As part of the Voices of Voters project, OMNI Ethiopia and Kambata Community Radio implemented a participatory community theatre session that brought local residents together to discuss elections, informed decision-making, the importance of voting, and active civic participation.
Using performance, storytelling, and open community dialogue, the session created an accessible space for residents to reflect on their role in the electoral process. The Amharic banner message, “Tomorrow by My Choice,” reinforced the importance of individual agency, responsible participation, and peaceful engagement.
Participatory community theatre helps translate civic education messages into familiar local stories and conversations. By combining creativity with public-interest communication, the activity supported communities to explore election-related issues in a way that is inclusive, relatable, and grounded in local context.
The Voices of Voters project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The project strengthens the role of community media in promoting peaceful, informed, and inclusive electoral participation.
