EMIC — Empowered Media-Informed Communities is OMNI Ethiopia's flagship 2025 project. Funded by GIZ and implemented with DW Akademie and the Ethiopian Media Council, EMIC strengthened the capacity of community radio journalists across Ethiopia to report on governance, elections, and civic issues with accuracy, credibility, and community relevance.
Lead implementing partner — training design and delivery, content production support, handbook development, mentorship, and equipment coordination. Activities: Delivered training to 178 journalists from 30 community radio stations; Covered five training topics: Anti-Paid-for-Loyalty (APL), Election Reporting, Basic Radio Journalism, Community Reporting, and Media Viability and Financial Sustainability; Developed and published 4 practical training handbooks; Supported production of 188 radio episodes; Coordinated €200,000 equipment support for partner stations; Provided mentorship and strategy support for sustainability and social media outreach. Key outputs: 178 journalists trained; 30 community radio stations supported; 5 training topics delivered; 4 training handbooks published; 188 radio episodes produced; €200,000 equipment support provided.
